The Swans Are Back
(Friday, June 27, 2003) - Swans have been part of the Public Gardens since 1836 and now there are two new ones to
delight visitors.
Halifax Public Gardens is proud to welcome two new swans- "Horatio" and "Nelson"--- which were donated to HRM by
the Lord Nelson Hotel and Suites, which is located across from the main entrance of the Public Gardens on South Park
Street.
A ceremony to officially welcome the mute swans will be part of Canada Day celebrations to be held in front the
Bandstand in the Public Gardens. Special guests include Mayor Peter Kelly, Councillor Dawn Sloane, and Richard
O'Beirne, General Manager of the Lord Nelson Hotel and Suites. There will be an unveiling of a plaque for the Swan's
pen.
