Sobeys Atlantic Presents Cheque Toward Restoration of the Public Gardens
(Wednesday, June 30, 2004) -- A cheque presentation was made this morning by Sobeys Atlantic to the Halifax Regional
Municipality in the amount of $100,000. Mayor Peter Kelly accepted the cheque on behalf of HRM, along with Robert
Pace, Chair of the Halifax Public Gardens Foundation from Mike Scott, President of Sobeys Atlantic, in a ceremony in the
Mayor's Office. The money donated by Sobeys Atlantic is to be used toward the restoration of the Public Gardens after
damage caused by Hurricane Juan.
Mayor Kelly said, "The donation being made by Sobeys Atlantic on the eve of the official re-opening of the Public Gardens
really comes as the icing on the cake". He added, "This is an example of what strong leadership we have in our corporate
community. The assistance being provided by Sobeys Atlantic to rebuild one of our most historic assets demonstrates their
great dedication and support for our region."
