Brad Marchand Day Proclaimed

(Friday, January 11, 2008) – Earlier today Mayor Peter J. Kelly proclaimed Saturday, January 12th, Brad Marchand Day in HRM.

Mr. Marchand recently returned from the 2007-2008 World Junior Hockey Championships in the Czech Republic with his second gold medal as a member of the Canadian World Junior Hockey team.

At the 2006-2007 World Junior Hockey Championships in Sweden, Mr. Marchand received his first gold medal.

This achievement marks the first time a resident of HRM has won two gold medals in Canadian Junior hockey.

Mayor Kelly said, " Mr. Marchand's gold medal effort brings pride to our entire community and provides a positive role model for our youth."

Mr. Marchand, born and raised in Hammond's Plains, makes his debut with the Halifax Mooseheads tomorrow night and has been drafted by the Boston Bruins.

Brad Marchand Day
January 12, 2008

Whereas Canada's national winter sport originated in Nova Scotia circa 1800; and

Whereas Nova Scotia is the growth-place of the fastest most exciting game in the world; and

Whereas The residents of the Halifax Regional Municipality wish to recognise the outstanding achievement of Brad Marchand as he represented Halifax Regional Municipality and Canada at the 2006-07 and the 2007-08 World Junior Hockey Championships in Sweden and Czech Republic; and

Whereas Brad Marchand, became the first two-time Canadian Junior Hockey Gold Medalist, born and raised in Hammonds Plains in the Halifax Regional Municipality, has returned to our community; and

Whereas The residents of Halifax Regional Municipality wish to convey their best wishes to Brad Marchand on his debut today with the Halifax Mooseheads Hockey League;

THEREFORE, I, Mayor Peter J. Kelly, on behalf of Halifax Regional Council, do hereby proclaim January 12, 2008, as Brad Marchand Day in the Halifax Regional Municipality.
