About Michael (Mickey) MacDonald

Widely considered to be among Nova Scotia’s most talented and successful businessmen, Michael MacDonald, President of Micco Companies and Chairman of the Nova Scotia Boxing Authority, is also recognized as being among the most generous and supportive when it comes to community involvement.

Born and raised in Halifax, MacDonald developed strong values, and an equally strong work ethic, from his parents. He regarded his Mother, Belle, as his template for success. She worked full-time as a nurse while raising seven children. “I watched my mother’s strong will and determination and I knew that’s what I needed to be a success.”

Michael, known to many by the nickname Mickey, is a well-known entrepreneur whose business interests are diversified across many industries including automotive leasing, retail, food and beverage, fitness, commercial and residential custom tile sales and residential land development. In 2005, Saint Mary's University presented MacDonald with an Honorary Doctor of Commerce.

MacDonald has won numerous business and personal awards including the 2008 Nova Scotia Humanitarian of the Year, 2005 Nova Scotia Philanthropist of the Year, 2004 Newfoundland Philanthropist of the Year, Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year, Halifax Chamber of Commerce Business Person of the Year and was among the Top 50 CEO's in Atlantic Canada for five years in a row. It is his involvement and the honours he has received for his community work for which MacDonald is most proud.

Thanks to such efforts, Mickey MacDonald has helped to make a difference in the lives of thousands of Nova Scotian’s, and, through his seemingly limitless dedication and devotion to the community, has inspired many more to follow his example.
