Dalhousie & King's College U-Pass
*Please note, this information is specific to Dalhousie University and University of King's College students only.
Your U-Pass is a special transit pass specifically for Dalhousie and King's Students. If you're a full-time student, your U-Pass lets you ride Metro Transit buses (conventional routes only) and ferries from September to April.
Am I Eligible?
All full-time students will receive a Dal/King's U-Pass. Part-time students and post-graduate medicine students are not eligible. There is no opt-out for this program (see refund eligibility).
How much does it cost?
This year, the U-Pass fee is $116 and is part of your mandatory incidental student fees. It's a great deal!
Where and when do I get my U-Pass?
You can get your U-Pass in August and begin using it the first day of classes in September 2006. Pick up your U-Pass at any of the following locations (remember to bring your student ID):
- Student Accounts, Basement Level, Henry Hicks Academic and Administration Building
- DalCard Office, 1443 Seymour Street
- Student Service Centre, 1360 Barrington Street, Sexton Campus
If you lose your U-Pass, you can get a new one for a $15 replacement fee. Just visit any of the above locations.
How does it work?
Your U-Pass is valid for unlimited use, 7 days a week throughout the school year, ending on April 30 2007. U-Pass is accepted on all conventional Metro Transit buses and ferries, excluding MetroLink and Community Transit buses. (The appropriate additional fare is required on these special services.)
Your U-Pass is Yours Alone
It cannot be loaned, sold or transferred to another person. Bus drivers check your DalCard/ King's picture ID. If it's not your pass, the driver can take the U-Pass from you. If this happens, contact Student Services, Room G28, Killam Library. If U-Pass privileges are misused, the pass can be revoked without a refund.
Refund eligibility?
You can receive a refund for your U-Pass fee under the following circumstances.
- If your academic program requires that you be outside HRM for the full winter term (e.g., co-op placements, clinical placements, fieldwork and research projects).
- Because of accessibility concerns, you use the Access-a-Bus system or have a CNIB pass and provide proof of registration before the add/drop date.
- Your full student fees have been refunded for any other reason by the University.
- You withdraw from the University, or change from full-time to part-time status before the add/drop date.
To arrange a refund in these circumstances, visit Student Services, Room G28, Killam Library.
What if I live outside the service area for buses?
No problem. You can drive to any Park-and-Ride location, park your car (for free) and catch the bus from there. You'll find Park-and-Ride parking lots at:
- Sackville Terminal
- Cobequid Terminal
- Downsview Terminal, Downsview Mall
- Penhorn Terminal
- Maybank Field, Mic Mac Blvd.
- Portland Hills Terminal
- South Centre Mall, Spryfield
- Mumford Terminal, Halifax Shopping Centre Annex
- Village at Bayers Road
- Centennial Arena, Halifax
What if I live on campus?
U-Pass isn't just for commuting! Your U-Pass lets you hop on the bus at any time - for a trip downtown or to the mall, for a ferry cruise to Dartmouth or a hike in the park. Explore HRM. Check schedules and routes under the "Schedules & Route Map" section of our website.
