Fare Increase
Effective January 31, 2005
On January 31, 2005, Metro Transit's bus, ferry and Access-A-Bus fares will increase. The fare increase includes the price of cash fares, Metro Passes and tickets for adults, seniors, children and students.
The adult cash fare will increase from $1.75 to $2.00; senior and child fares will increase from $1.25 to $1.40; and student cash fares from $1.75 to $2.00.
Metro Passes for adults will increase from $57.00 to $60.00; (20 tickets from $30.00 to $32.00); senior and child passes from $38.00 to $42.00;(20 tickets from $22 to $23); and student Metro Passes from $51.00 to $54.00 per month; with 20 tickets the same price as the adult tickets.
The last Metro Transit fare increase took place in August 2003 with a 10 cent increase in the cash fare only, from $1.65 to $1.75. Prior to this, the last fare increase was in 1999. And yet, despite the latest price increase, Metro Transit still has one of the lowest transit fare structures for cities of comparable size across Canada. The average transit fare for a mid-size city is $2.35.
