9.3 Presentations
Ken Silver, Planning Department, gave an update on Low Floor Buses. He also wanted the Committee's input regarding service to area's where proper infrastructure (sidewalks) where not in place, i.e., Burnside and Bayer's Lake Industrial Park.
The Committee was eager to get the new Low Floor Bus Routes going as soon as possible, with the summer months being the "prime" travelling time. If Metro Transit waits for all the stops to be made accessible, the new routes may not start until September or October.
The Committee felt that key stops, i.e., terminals and major stops that are already accessible or others be made accessible as soon a possible, this would allow some users to access the low floor bus service and take advantage of some parts of the routes.
Public education in the disabled community would be key to this happening. As long as the disabled community is made aware that only certain stops were available to them, at this time and additional stops would be available as soon as the required improvements, were completed.
