Metro Transit Bus Fleet Converts to
Biodiesel Fuel
On October 12th, 2004, HRM and Metro Transit
announced that the entire Transit bus fleet had
switched to biodiesel fuel.
The biodiesel product, a blend of a 20% bio-fuel and
80% regular diesel, has been tested in a sample of
Metro Transit buses since last winter.
National tests have proven that the blending of this
product with diesel fuel dramatically reduced
particulate matter emissions by almost 18%, carbon
dioxide by 16% and unburned hydro-carbons by 11%.
This change will bring HRM closer to being a leader in
reducing practices that contribute to global warming
-mainly through greenhouse gas emissions.

Metro Watch Campaign
We're on the lookout for you!
The Metro Transit Safe Ride Committee, in
partnership with Halifax Regional Police and the
RCMP, are launching the Metro Watch safe parking
campaign.
Many commuters take advantage of the Park-and-Ride
facilities throughout HRM. As cars are sometimes left
unattended for extended periods of time, the Woodside
Ferry Terminal now has a full-time commissionaire on
site. As a further step, Metro Transit will distribute
Metro Watch dashcards - the commissionaire will
check cars as they leave the lot.
Don't be a victim, always lock your doors and
windows!

2004 "Stuff-A-Bus"!
On Friday, December 3rd, 2004, the Amalgamated
Transit Union (ATU local 508), Metro Transit and
C100/ CJCH Radio will hold its 14th Annual Stuff-ABus
food drive for the Metro Food Bank Society.
Beginning at 7:30 am, the designated "Stuff-A-Bus" will
be parked at the C100 radio parking lot on Agricola
Street where the Breakfast Club will broadcast live
(with help from Santa!) until 9:00 am. Metro Transit
staff volunteers will conduct the food drive while the
C100/CJCH radio announcers broadcast from the bus
throughout the day.
Drop by with your non-perishable food items, or a cash
donation to help the Metro Food Bank stock their
shelves for this holiday season.
We encourage you to call the C100/CJCH Access Line
in advance at 493-2780 to register, if you would like us
to come to your place of business or school. Start your
challenges now with other schools and businesses
and be sure to listen to C100 and CJCH radio for
updated details leading up to the big event.
We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who has
given so generously in past years - making "Stuff-ABus"
an annual success.
