European Fire Ant

 

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has identified the European Fire Ant, (Myrmica rubra Linnaeus), as present in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec and Ontario, and is known to be present in the North Eastern United States.

A webpage containing information on the European Fire Ant (species identification, nesting habits, control measures, etc.) has been prepared for residents.

How Do You Report a Suspected Violation of the Pesticide By-Law?

HRM has received some enquiries from the public regarding reporting suspected violations of the Pesticide By-Law.

The conditions that must be met for a pesticide permit/ application can be found in the Pesticide By-Law (P-800) on this website.

If you see a suspected violation of the Pesticide By-Law, simply call the HRM Call Centre at 490-4000. They will record the call and forward it on to the By-Law Enforcement office for investigation.
