Curbside Solid Waste Tips

General Tips

  • Do not place appliances at the curbside while awaiting removal of CFC's (refrigerant gas). Appliances should only be placed at the curbside on the scheduled collection day. Refrigeration appliances placed for curbside collection must have a sticker indicating CFC's have been removed or they will not be collected. The HRM offers free removal of CFC's from refrigeration appliances to all properties eligible for municipal curbside collection.
  • Consider donating furniture and other items in good condition to charitable organizations. Consult the Yellow Pages section of your telephone directory or visit the Naturally Green Community Page for a listing of charities that accept used goods.
  • Make arrangements with a neighbour to put out your garbage if you will be away on the scheduled collection day.
  • Be a community steward. Help seniors and neighbours in need by offering or being willing to put out garbage if they are unable to do so.
  • Keep informed regarding any changes to the scheduled collection day. Information on schedule changes can be found in local newspapers, on the HRM Website or by calling 490-4000, 1(800) 835-6428 (Toll free in Nova Scotia Only).
  • Call 490-4000, 1(800) 835-6428 (Toll free in Nova Scotia Only) to if garbage collection has not occurred on your street.
