Integrated Emergency Services

Integrated Emergency Services (IES) is an integrated dispatch centre, providing dispatch services to Halifax Regional Police, and Halifax District RCMP and Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency. IES is the largest and busiest 9-1-1 Public Service Answering Point (PSAP) in Nova Scotia and also fields all calls received on the Halifax Regional Police non-emergency line - 490-5020.

IES employs 80 staff and operates on a 24/7 basis 365 days a year. Staff are designated as CCRT’s (Civilian Communications Radio Technician’s). IES Call Takers are the first point of contact for citizens calling 9-1-1 or 490-5020. They gather pertinent information, determine if the situation requires an emergency response and identify the appropriate service responder(s). Calls requiring dispatch of a Fire and Emergency, RCMP or Police unit are routed to IES Dispatchers. They priorize calls and dispatch resources to the incident location. Dispatchers maintain contact with the responding unit, providing updates as required.
