Police Report - April 21, 2012

GO #12-57947 - Robbery - At 1:16 a.m., members of the Halifax Regional Police and Halifax District RCMP responded to a robbery in progress at the Ultramar Gas Station, 219 Pleasant Street in Dartmouth. The clerk reported that a man entered the store brandishing a knife. He demanded and was given an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes and then fled the store prior to police arrival. The clerk was not injured during this incident. The suspect was described as a white man, in his mid 50's, thin build, reddish coloured nose, salt and pepper mustache, wearing a red toque and khaki coloured jacket. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police at 490-5016. GO #12-57942 - Injury Motor Vehicle Collision - At approximately 1 a.m., police responded to a two vehicle collision on Highway 111 between exits 6 and 7. The collision occurred when a southbound vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed clipped a second southbound vehicle causing both cars to lose control. One vehicle spun out of control, travelling across the median into the northbound lanes, and then stricking the guardrail before coming to rest in the median once again. A man in his 30's travelling in this vehicle was taken to hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the second vehicle fled on foot when officers arrived at the scene. A K-9 unit was called in and successfully tracked and arrested the man. The HRP Accident Investigation Unit was called out to coordinate the accident investigation. A 33-year-old Cole Harbour man faces charges of impaired driving and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
