Man Charged in Shooting

A man faces charges in connection with a shooting last night in Halifax.

At approximately 10:40 p.m. police responded to a shooting on Dakin Drive. Investigators believe the 27-year-old victim and several suspects, who are known to each other, were involved in an altercation in the area of Dakin Drive and Bedford Highway. The suspects then chased the victim to an address on Dakin Drive and one man fired a shot through the door, hitting the victim. He was taken to hospital with significant injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening. At approximately 12 a.m., a man was arrested without incident at an address on Dawn Street in Halifax.

Eighteen-year-old Coty John Atwood faces charges of attempt murder, assault with a weapon, causing bodily harm with intent, a number of weapons related offences and three counts of breaching his conditions. He was scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court this afternoon.
