Citizens on Patrol
Citizens on Patrol (COP) is a group of dedicated volunteers who work closely with Halifax Regional Police to help prevent crime in our region. Using their own vehicles, these volunteers work in pairs to patrol our communities and make police aware of suspicious situations or crimes in progress. Citizens on Patrol logo


What are the qualifications to join Citizens on Patrol?

  • 19 years of age or older
  • Hold a valid Nova Scotia Driver's Licence, vehicle registration and insurance for this province
  • Able to make a minimum one-year commitment of at least 120 hours per year
  • Pass HRP security clearances
  • Mature, reliable, team player

As a Citizens on Patrol Volunteer, you will...

  • Get to know your community
  • Observe activity and take notes
  • Report suspicious activity to police
  • Complete a minimum one-year commitment of at least 120 hours per year
  • Attend meetings/training sessions
  • Ensure your automobile insurance is current and covers you for COP activities

 

  • Do not put yourself in danger
  • Do not take enforcement action
  • Do not carry unauthorized weapons
