Victim Services Volunteers

Victim Services LogoVictim Services volunteers provide emotional support, crisis support and referral information to victims of crime at the scene. Victims may have been involved in domestic violence, robberies, assaults, motor vehicle accidents, etc.

What do Victim Services Volunteers do?

Utilizing a combination of telephone and mobile response methods, volunteers provide support by contacting and assisting victims during the evening hours. Calls are made from the Victim Services office, while mobile response offers in-person service to victims, at the scene or in a secondary location, shortly after the incident has occured.

What are the qualifications to be a Victim Services Volunteer?

Our volunteers come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Some have compatible educations; others have related experience or life experience that makes them strong candidates. Empathy and a genuine desire to help others are key success factors.

All candidates must:

  • have experience in providing listening support to clients
  • pass Halifax Regional Police security clearances
  • be able to work a minimum of two evenings per month
  • have a valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation
