Robbery Break and Enter Auto Theft

The General Investigation Section (GIS) is an Integrated Unit made up of officers from both Halifax Regional Police and RCMP Halifax Detachment.  The officers in this unit serve the areas of: Halifax, Dartmouth, Bedford, Spryfield, Sambro, Tantallon, Sackville and Cole Harbour.

The GIS Unit is broken into three smaller specialized units:

• Robbery
• Break and Enter
• Auto Theft 

Their primary mandate is to investigate all:

• Residential break and enters
• Robberies or attempted robberies
• Stolen motor vehicles

Officers in this unit are also responsible for investigating arson, complaints of serious assault, firearms complaints as well as complaints with significant public interest. 

The GIS section can be called upon to provide assistance to the Patrol Division as needed.
