Police Science Program

Recruitment for our Police Science Program for Police Cadet Training will be assessed in the spring of 2012. Assessment of our staffing needs for the 2012/2013 year will reviewed and a decision will be made at that time if we will conduct a recruitment process. Unfortunately, we do not accept applications unless we are actively recruiting.

FAQ's

HRP Police Science Program is designed to train cadets in-house. The Province of Nova Scotia, Department of Justice recognizes the Program. HRP offers the Program when it is determined that there will be anticipated vacancies in the future.

Duration
The Police Science Program is 40 weeks in duration.  In the 6 months of classroom training, cadets will experience theory, laws, investigative and practical training to function effectively during their on-the-job training. Cadets are required to attend class Monday-Friday from 7 a.m.- 5 p.m. There are occasions when Cadets are required to attend training on evenings and weekends. Cadets will then experience nine weeks of on-the-job (OJT) on Patrol. After OJT, Cadets will return to the classroom for 1 more month of training until graduation.

Residency

The program is conducted in the HRP Northbrook Training Centre. HRP does not offer lodging for participants.

Cost

The Police Science Program costs $10,000, which is payable on the first day of class. All students are eligible to apply for government financial assistance. You may contact the Nova Scotia Department of Education Student Assistance Office for information.

Employment

HRP generally conducts training with the intention of hiring the successful graduates. Given the competitive nature of the process, HRP will offer employment for current vacancies based on the candidate's performance in the Program.
