Review Process -

Unsolicited Requests

A formal request is sent to the Real Estate Technician with the following information:

Arrow Civic address or PID number of property being requested
Arrow Actual use of the property being requested
Arrow Size required (either all of the land or portion, thereof)
Arrow Complete contact information of the requesting proponent
Arrow Reason for acquisition or disposition

Upon receipt of this request, the Real Estate Technician will:

Arrow Acknowledge receipt of request
Arrow Advise proponent if this property has already been through the Review Process and notify outcome
Arrow If property has not already been through the Review Process, then all pertinent information on this property is gathered
Arrow Produce map and information sheets
Arrow Place in next available Real Estate Review package
Arrow Real Estate Review package sent to committee (approximately 18 Business Units)

PLEASE NOTE: The above procedure usually takes approximately 2
to 4 months depending on receipt of the request and timing of the
Real Property Review.

Completion of the Real Property Review Process:

Arrow A Real Estate Technician will advise the proponent as to whether or not HRM wishes to retain or surplus said property
Arrow If HRM wishes to retain, proponent is advised and no further action is taken
Arrow If HRM wishes to surplus, the Real Estate Technician will advise the proponent that the property is considered surplus by staff. It is then placed with a Real Estate Officer who will contact the proponent once they have reviewed the file and have determined the appropriate method of acquisition or disposition
Arrow If property is considered surplus, it will be sold at "Fair Market Value"

PLEASE NOTE: Although a proponent initiated the process for the sale of a property does not necessarily mean that proponent will be sold the property. If the property is of adequate size and zoning and can be developed, the property will likely be put on the open market and sold publicly.
