Birch Cove Park Improvements

Lake Banook will be the host site for the 2009 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships, August 12-16, 2009.  The Lake Banook Site Improvements Project will prepare HRM parks around Lake Banook for the benefit of the 2009 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships and will leave a legacy for park users.

Under the guidance of the Sullivan's Pond & Lake Banook Master Plan, the following site improvements will take place at Birch Cove Park:

  • underground electrical for park lighting
  • improved site drainage
  • walking paths (asphalt & crusher dust)
  • enhanced landscape design
  • expanded washroom
  • asphalt parking lot with concrete curbs
  • outdoor shower
  • event tent pads in park
  • stone retaining walls
  • concrete & wood steps
  • Atco wash car pads with water & sewer hookups
  • concrete sidewalks
  • culverts in park to direct runoff
  • PaddleALL dock (accessible dock)
  • park entrance gate
  • boulder seating rocks
