2011 PRE-SEASON NOTICES:
"Spring may be in the air, but HRM's grass playing fields won't be ready for the busy playing season ahead for some time. Municipal crews have maintenance work to do before the fields can be opened for the season. Using the ball diamonds and sports fields too early can cause damage to turf that can delay season start up. As the fields have not been maintained over the winter months, they can also pose risks to users. Both All Weather Turf Facilities (Halifax/Mainland Common and Dartmouth/Burnside) are now open and available to be scheduled. For Scheduling information for the 2011 Season, please contact the appropriate Scheduling Office by calling 490-7100 or visit our website at http://www.halifax.ca/rec/BookingsandRentals.html To report any misuse of fields or to advise of safety concerns, vandalism, etc., contact our Corporate Call Centre at 490-4000."
The standards set forth by the Municipal Operations indicate that nets will be installed during the month of May. If requests are being made for specific courts, these may be accommodated but will be dependant on the availability of equipment and staff. Operations staff r emain on their winter work scheduled until April 15th. Those courts that have the highest amount of use are installed first. Please direct any and all requests to the HRM Corporate Call Centre at 490-4000 in order have all requests tracked appropriately.
"HRM would like to advise the general public and clients of outdoor athletic fields that although staff have begun preparing fields for play, wet spring weather is having an adverse effect on opening dates for the 2011 Season.
Municipal Operations and Scheduling Staff are working closely to ensure clients are notified on any changes that may have to take place with previously requested field opening dates. Opening dates are staggered depending on field use and condtion.
Municipal crews continue to revise their work schedules to carry out field maintenance work as weather allows. Using Ball Diamonds and Sport Fields under the currect field conditions can cause damage to turf which can delay season start up.
Both All Weather Turf Facilities (Halifax/Mainland Common and Dartmouth/Burnside) are now open and available to be scheduled.
