The number of applications continue to increase with awareness of the program. Many valuable partnerships have been formed with metro recreational service providers and funding organizations which help remove barriers for children and youth so they can experience the opportunities and benefits.

How does HRM Kids make a difference in your community?
- A young mother calls the HRM Kids Program inquiring about opportunities for her active eighteen month old. Through Metro Transit’s generous donation of bus tickets to HRM Kids, this mom was able to access a metro parent and tot program.
- To help fulfill her teenage son’s aspiration to attend a theatre program, one mom contacted HRM Kids and relayed his wish. Thanks to University staff who provided a discounted price to this program, combined with HRM Kids funds, this young man enjoyed a week-long camp. We were pleasantly surprised to receive correspondence from him expressing his gratitude and joy!
- Another request was fulfilled for a teen girl wishing to enroll in a drama program, thanks to the drama/acting school that offered a free space.
- Swimming lessons continue to be a very popular request for families wanting their children to excel in this lifelong skill. Our staff provide discounted program spaces, in many cases supplemented by HRM Kids.
- March break and summer camps offer a wide spectrum of recreational activities and are in very high demand for HRM Kids funding, as are the numerous requests for sport league registration in activities such as soccer, baseball, basketball and hockey.
