Policies and Guidelines
- Administration of Medication
If a program participant requires medication to be administered or stored by staff during the program, please complete the Medication Administration Form available at your local recreation centre. These forms are to be filled out by a parent/guardian and family doctor and returned to the centre prior to the start of the program.
- Age Policies
Program participants must meet the required age within one month following the start of the program. Please note that some programs may be exempt from this policy due to guidelines set by outside governing agencies.
- Class Cancellation
There are times when HRM must cancel an individual class due to inclement weather, instructor or facility related conflicts. In this occurrence, every effort will be made to reschedule the cancelled classes. If classes cannot be rescheduled, a credit will be placed on your account for future use. Please contact the Recreation Centre offering the program for details
- Course Requirements
All participants must meet the course requirements stated in the Recreation Catalogue. In the event the client does not meet course requirements, customers may call the Recreation Centre offering the program and speak to a program supervisor for clarification and review.
- Credit Balances
Account credits must be used within one year from date of issue. After 12 months, credits over $5 will be refunded. Credits under $5 will be removed from the account.
- Payment Options
Payment plans are available by calling your local recreation centre. If your financial circumstances make it difficult for you to pay the full fee for a program, call your local recreation centre/office and ask to speak to the Community Recreation Coordinator. Various options are available.
- Returned Cheques and NSF/Administrative Fees
HRM charges an NSF(non-sufficient funds)/Administrative Fee on all cheques. If your cheque does not clear, you will be required to pay by cash, or debit/credit card following notification of the return of the cheque, for both the program cost and the NSF/Administrative Fee.
- Photography
A picture is worth a thousand words!!
We love to show pictures of people participating in our recreation programs. A picture of you smiling says even more -- it shows us that you are having fun while being active. So if you see our photographer - smile!
You may show up in our next catalogue, our brochures or on our website.
If you prefer not to have your picture or your child’s picture taken, please indicate in the 'use of pictures' section of the participant information form or let the photographer know and we will be happy to comply.
- Program Cancellation
HRM reserves the right to cancel any program or change class times and/or locations. Do not wait until the last minute to register, as programs with low registration may be cancelled. If HRM cancels the program, a refund will be given automatically, and prorated if applicable.
- Program Changes
Due to the advanced printing of the recreation catalogue: fees, dates, times, and locations of programs are subject to change. For the most up to date information on recreation programs, visit www.halifax.ca/recconnect.

- Refund Policy
HRM is committed to the satisfaction of all participants in our recreation programs.
