Youth LIVE participants gain hands-on experience and learn marketable job skills working in Youth LIVE's business initiatives. Participants will have an opportunity to experience all of our operations during their 28-week program.

In addition to working in Youth LIVE initiatives, participants take part in interactive learning modules.

Learning Modules

• Safety - we all have a part to play in maintaining a safe environment for ourselves and others. We will help you understand your role and your rights.

• Budgeting - you will find out how you spend your money now and where you may need to make adjustments to ensure you budget your bi-weekly stipend correctly to cover your basic living expenses.

• Portfolio Development – during the 28-week program, you will create a portfolio with a collection of items including recognition reports, job skills assessments, reference letter, resume, and skills inventory.

• Skills Identification – in the early stages of the program, you will identify what skills you have and which skills require further development.

• Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) - you will learn about the safety processes for products which you may come into contact with at Youth LIVE, and the procedure for reporting incidents involving these materials. You will receive a WHMIS certification card upon completion of this module.

• Writing Cover Letters – you will be provided with coaching in preparing a cover letter.

• Writing Resumes – you will be provided with with tips and be guided through a process on proper resume writing. You will have one-on-one time with staff to create your own resume.

• First Aid Training - you are eligible for Emergency First Aid + CPR (c) + AED (Automated External Defibrillator) training after being in the program for 16 weeks.

• Interview Techniques – you will be introduced to methods that will help give a positive first impression.

• Job Search Tools and Techniques - you will learn the tools and techniques needed for a thorough job search.
