Environment
The Regional Plan will identify ways to protect HRM's environmental assets, as our region continues to grow.
Public concern for protecting HRM's environmental assets has been well documented. The top five environmental concerns reported during Phase I of the Regional Planning process were:
- Halifax Harbour clean-up
- Drinking water quality
- Lake water quality for recreation
- Loss of wildlife habitat
- Conservation of green space
Building on HRM's many environmental initiatives, the regional plan will address the protection of our natural assets.
The Regional Plan will also identify ways to preserve HRM's natural resources, recreation and cultural areas as well as connected parks and forests to protect wildlife.
Research shows that investors choose to locate their companies in cities that offer a high quality environment. Encouraging growth and development that minimizes the impact on our environment makes good business sense.
