The Regional Planning Committee was established in March 2003 to make recommendations to staff and Regional Council and to guide the creation of the policies that would make up a regional plan to shape HRM's growth.

The Committee's mandate was to guide the creation of a regional plan that outlines the direction for HRM's future, based on public consultation, professional expertise, HRM's Vision 20/20 initiative and Corporate Priorities.

The Committee's vision was: HRM will adopt a broad Regional Plan which, throughout the next 25 years, will guide its physical development in a way that promotes healthy, vibrant, sustainable communities.
