Revenue

This is a business unit of Financial Services which includes two other business units: Procurement and Accounting. The Revenue business unit has three sections: Payment Processing, Taxation and General Revenue.

Payment Processing

This section is of an internal nature; the scope is to ensure the cash flow from the payments received from both the internal and external customers are processed accurately. Also performs short and long term borrowing and investments for the Halifax Regional Municipality and acts as an internal auditor.

Taxation

This section is responsible for the billing, collection and inquiries in regard to Halifax Regional Municipality's property, business and commercial taxes. The property tax sales and auctions due to delinquent closed businesses are the responsibility of this unit.

General Revenue

This section is responsible for the timely processing and collection of revenues and receivables for the Halifax Regional Municipality. Within this framework, the unit works towards identifying current and future revenue streams and assists line departments with the processing and collection of revenue by developing and implementing policy and procedures that facilitate timely and accurate revenue recognition. There are approximately 100 different sources of revenues generated from non-property tax related goods- parking tickets, dog licenses, alarm permits, rental properties, cemetaries, transit clients to name a few.
