Renting the Reception Hall...

Here is everything you need to know:

Booking the Hall

To book your event, view the facility, or if you have any other questions, please contact Susan Doucette at 490-4688 or A $300 deposit payable by cash, cheque, debit, Visa, MasterCard, or American Express is required for booking. Also, a copy of our detailed rental agreement must be read, signed, and returned to St. Mary’s Boat Club.

What is included in your rental?

  • Rectangle tables:
    17- 2.5’x8’, 8- 2.5’x6’, 2-2.5’x5’
  • Round tables:
    19-5’ diameter (seats 8)
  • Chairs: 200
  • Friday, Saturday, Sunday rental access to facility at 10 am
  • Use of kitchen with fridge, oven, freezer, and microwave
  • SMBC staff on site during event
  • All other items (catering, dishes, linens, equipment, decorations, bar service, music) are the responsibility of the renter.

When is the Reception Hall available for rent?

  • St. Mary’s Boat Club is open April 1st – December 15th
  • All rentals must end at midnight

What are the fees?

  • Full day rental:
    $700 + special event fees + $300 refundable security deposit*
  • Weekday daytime:
    $70/hr or $560 full day
  • Evening/weekend:
  • Not-for-profit rate:        
    50% off all day Sunday or Wednesday evenings (alcohol free)
  • Booking Fee:                    

*required at time of booking. Returned 5 business days after event provided there is no damage to facility and all guidelines are respected.



The reception hall, kitchen, upper deck inside washrooms, and outside upper deck are wheelchair accessible.



A Special Occasion Liquor License is required if you are serving alcohol at your event.  A rental contact from SMBC will be provided to attach to your application to the Nova Scotia Alcohol & Gaming Division 780 Windmill Road, 2nd FL, Dartmouth 424-6160. A copy of your license must be posted during your event.


Building Supervision:

A Building Monitor will be on site for the duration of your event. Please respect his/her instructions. Please see the Building Monitor if you have any questions.



Monday-Thursday events require a 30 day notice of cancelled to receive a full deposit refund.

Friday-Saturday events require a 3 month notice of cancellation to receive a full deposit refund.



Set-up and clean-up are the responsibility of the renter. Decorations taken down, garbage separated and disposed of, empty bottles removed from premises, all equipment removed, tables and chairs stacked. Rented equipment may be left on the stage but must be picked up the next morning between 9:30-10:00am.



Decorations should be limited to tables and hung from existing hooks in arches and rafters. Candles must be fully contained in glass. Confetti, tape, nails, tacks, and staples are prohibited.


Garbage Disposal:

All waste must be separated and removed to the proper outside bins. If waste is not properly separated fees will be deducted from the security deposit.


Lower Deck/ Boat House:

Guests are not permitted in the downstairs boat house. If wedding parties or guests are arriving by boat for drop off or pick up please make arrangements with SMBC in advance.


Music Sound Levels:

Due to our location in a residential neighbour we may monitor sound levels at our events. Windows and doors must remain closed on the north side of the building and Building Monitors may measure the sound level from time to time. Live music is permitted during Friday and Saturday events only.



The reception hall is available to rent for private functions only. No publicly advertised /general admission events are permitted. Halifax Regional Municipality has the right to prohibit us e of the facility by individuals and groups that may violate or promote violation of rights guaranteed under the Nova Scotia Human Rights Act and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedom.



Set-up is the responsibility of the renter. Please check your contract to confirm your set-up start time.

Shut Down:

Due to our location in a residential neighbourhood, all rentals must end at midnight – no exceptions. At midnight, music must be turned off and clean-up begun. Clean-up typically takes 1 hour. After this time, fess will be deducted from your deposit.



St. Mary’s Boat Club is a non-smoking facility.


Youth Events:

Events must have 1 adult chaperone for every 10 guests under the age of 18.
