Parking is an essential component of the transportation system and a major component of the urban fabric. The supply and pricing of parking affects how people travel to work, entertainment and shopping activities, how likely people are to use private automobiles and how successful businesses and tourist attractions are.
Either directly or indirectly, parking policies can have an effect on the quality of life for residents, congestion levels, the environment, attractiveness of urban areas, and financial performance. Too much parking can lead to the degradation of urban spaces while too little parking can affect the viability of commercial activities.
The Regional Parking Strategy provides an opportunity to bring parking policies into line with the strategic plan for the Region while addressing current parking issues in the short-term.
