The Regional Parking Strategy has been adopted by Halifax Regional Council.  The document contains recommendations on policies, regulations, standards, design and programs for parking within Halifax Regional Municipality.

The Regional Parking Strategy, is based upon the philosophy that parking has a major influence upon whether or not people drive to work or other destinations.

The Regional Plan states:

"The decision to drive alone is heavily influenced by the cost, availability and convenience of parking.  To reduce the demand for parking, several things can alter the behaviour of the commuter...

...It is also important to balance the needs of business, tourism and other uses throughout HRM, whileat the same time promoting the sue of alternative modes of transportation..."
