UPDATE - AUGUST 2009
The Nova Scotia Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (NSTIR) and Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) are still awaiting the final consultants report from Stantec. There have been some delays with a subcontractor. Once that report is received HRM staff will review it and table it with Regional Council. At that time staff will make "go forward" recommendations. It is intended that transit investment will occur before any decision to add vehicle capacity is taken. That transit investment may, include creation of a new lane(s) dedicated to transit vehicles to improve their effectiveness.
Background
The Nova Scotia Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (NSTIR) and Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) are exploring the future best use of the Bayers Road / Highway 102 Corridor from Windsor Street, Halifax to Fall River. The study includes traffic projections and functional designs that could be implemented in stages over a 30-year period. The location of the proposed Highway 107 from Akerley Blvd in Burnside to Highway 102 near Duke Street (Exit 4C) has also been updated and evaluated. The study was conducted by Stantec Consulting on behalf of NSTIR and HRM.
