Prince Street to George Street
On the Brunswick Street segment from
Prince to George, the 16.0-meter total roadway width can be
reconfigured to allow two southbound lanes, both 2.7-meters wide
and a 4.3-meter shared bike/parking lane. Northbound, a shared
outside lane of 3.6 meters and an inside 2.7-meter lane is
possible.
The roadway segment from George Street to
the intersection at Rainnie Drive and Duke Street is the same
width as the Sackville to Prince Segment. Meter parking is
provided on the west side, beginning approximately 15 meters from
the southbound merge at Rainnie Drive onto Brunswick Street.
Parking could be increased by reducing the 15 meter restriction,
placing a concrete delineator 9 meters south of the merge area
and allowing parking in the refuge area. There is no parking
provided on the east side of the road along this segment. A
loading bay is located off the roadway in front of the Metro
Centre.
The roadway can be reconfigured to
provide a 4.3-meter shared parking/ bike lane along the west side
beginning at the refuge area, with two southbound traffic lanes
that would complete the southbound three-lane system from Duke to
Sackville Street. As there is no parking on the east side, the
outside lane requirement can be reduced. Allowing for striping,
the outside and inside northbound lanes on this segment would
both be 2.7 meters wide. As an additional safety measure, refuge
islands should be provided for cyclists at intersections along
the entire segment in order to reduce the risk of accidents from
turning movements.
