Right-of-Way Services

• Right-of-Way Services administers a number of permits and applications for work being considered within HRM's street right-of-way. Below, you will find a list of services which this section administers. If you wish to obtain permits or find out whether your work can be done within the right-of-way, you will need to contact Right-of-Way Services.

• Annual streets and services permits for telephone, power, water, gas and communiciations
• Streets and services permits for lateral renewals, driveway cuts, rickshaws, newspaper boxes, utility poles, electical conduits, horse and carriage tours, harbour hopper tours, street or sidewalk closures, mailboxes, signs, waterline renewals, storm systems, advertising benches, oversized loads, access permits, culverts, and others.
• Encroachment permits
• Hoarding permits
• Utility permits
• Comfort letters
• Sidewalk cafe permits
• Any other activity in the street not associated with subdivisions or buildings
