  1. Who owns and who do we call to report a street light that is out or malfunctioning?

    Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) - owns approximately a total of 14,000 street lights. They are responsible for the repair/maintenance of street lights in the former City of Halifax boundaries and all ornamental lighting in Dartmouth and Bedford. To check the boundaries for HRM street light repair/maintenance responsibilities, please see the boundaries listed below.     Nova Scotia Power - owns approximately a total of 23,000 street lights. They are responsible for the repair/maintenance of street lights in the Halifax Regional Municipality which consists of Dartmouth, Bedford, and the former County of Halifax. To check the boundaries for NS Power street light repair/maintenance responsibilities, please see the boundaries listed below. To report a street light out or malfunctioning in these areas please call the Nova Scotia Power Corperation at 428-6230.

    Boundaries - The following are the boundaries where the Halifax Regional Municipality responsibility ends and Nova Scotia Powers begins: 750 Bedford Highway, 610 Purcells Cove Road, 860 Herring Cove Road, 390 Kearney Lake Road. Everything beyond Bayers Lake Industrial Park (District 21), however NS Power does look after parking lot lights within the Halifax Regional Municipality.

    Department of Transportation and Public Works - are responsible for street lights on all 100 series highways and the on and off ramps. They are also responsible for the lighting on the Circumferential Highway (Hwy# 111) from the A. Murray MacKay Bridge to Pleasant Street.
