Street and traffic sign maintenance includes the manufacture, repair, replacement and new installation of street name signs, traffic control signs, (i.e., stop signs, yield signs) and traffic regulatory signs (i.e., parking signs) on HRM owned streets and roads, as authorized by the HRM Traffic Authority.
In the operating year of 2000-2001, we produced approximately:
- 9,000 traffic signs and
- 600 street name signs
We also repaired and installed more than 1,500 posts in the Halifax Regional Municipality. Street and traffic sign maintenance is carried out on both a demand and planned basis.
This facility is also responsible for the repainting of traffic markings, i.e., crosswalks, directional arrows, traffic lines. This involves the painting of:
- 1500 km of White and Yellow Centreline
- 65,376.20 meters of Stopbars/Crosswalks
- 3,804 plus arrows
