Pavement Markings for Bicycles

What are they?

bike lane marking

Pavement markings for bicycle facilities are stencils which include a bicycle symbol and an arrow. These symbols indicate that this section of the roadway is part of a bicycle route. They are designed to advise motorists that cyclists are present in the area. The symbols are designed to indicate to cyclists where they should be riding.

Where are they installed?

Bicycle pavement markings will be used where there is a ‘Reserved Bicycle Only’ lane. Also, where on-street parking is permitted, the symbol should be located outside of the door zone (the distance taken up by a vehicle door when opened).
