Mandate & Goals

 

Mission

The mission of the Halifax Regional Trails Association (HRTA) is to assist and support community trails groups to develop, build and promote a system of interconnecting trails in HRM.

Purpose Statement


The HRTA is established to advise the HRM Council on matters related to:

  • coordinating an integrated trail and walkway system for areas within HRM
  • coordinating activities among community groups, federal, provincial, and municipal and
  • corporate partners, the NS trails Federation and the TCT foundation
    promoting the development of trail focused community groups throughout HRM

HRTA is established to provide leadership, promote public awareness and advocate action on matters related to trail development in HRM

HRTA is established to provide input to the HRM Council as requested on matter concerning trails in HRM

Goals

  1. To create a permanent, sustainable maintenance plan for all trails, with the goal of nice trails, less pressure on volunteers and communities.
  2. To maintain or create sustainable capital and operational funding. The ultimate goal is to gain increasing support for an integrated trail system.
  3. Develop a strategy for raising awareness of the multi faceted benefits of the Trails system ( healthy active communities).
  4. Develop a strategy for recruitment and retention of volunteers.
  5. Develop a regional strategy for linkages resulting in an integrated network.
  6. To lobby for adequate trails legislation (i.e. Trails Act).

Composition of Members


The members of the HRTA shall be composed of representatives of trail groups within HRM who share the common goals of trail development and a commitment to cooperative effort to maximize the realization of such goals.

To be members, the trail organizations represented must:

  • have legitimate community support
  • have trail development as one of its mandates and core goals
  • be developing trails in HRM
  • be a registered society under the Societies Act
  • be members in good standing of Nova Scotia Trails
