The St. Margaret’s Bay Area Rails to Trail Association is a community association comprised solely of volunteers from the local area. The association has been actively working towards the development of this trail since 1995.
This trail was one of five priority projects identified under the Halifax Regional Trails Projects, and is also part of Phase ll of the Trans Canada Trail. The project involved the development of some 34 km of abandoned rail lines, currently in reserve status under the ownership of the province.
The mandate of the St. Margaret's Bay Rail to Trails Association is to develop the abandoned rail line running between Hubley and Hubbards into a recreational trail that offers a quality trail experience for a variety of user groups including walkers, cyclists, ATV riders, horses, cross country skiers and snowmobiles.
