Information for New Passengers

New to Halifax Transit? We hope the information below will answer some of the initial questions you have.

What is a transfer?

A transfer is a piece of paper that allows you to connect to other buses or ferries to complete your one-way trip without paying an additional fare. Transfers are available on all bus service, ferry services and Access-A-Bus passengers may also receive transfers. Coloured transfers are valid for up to 90 minutes after the last time point on the route and can be used inbound or outbound on any Halifax Transit routes and services. Punch marks specify the issue date, while the tear away indicates the transfer’s expiration time. Halifax Transit asks that passengers request the transfer when boarding the bus or ferry.
