Halifax Transit has several services that can assist senior members of our community in getting to where they need to go and getting home safely. View some of our resources that are available to make trips for seniors more safe and convenient:
In August 2012, Halifax Regional Council approved a motion to offer transit service free to Halifax residents 65 and older for parts of Tuesday afternoons and evenings.
As such, seniors can travel free of charge on Tuesdays, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and after 6 p.m., on conventional bus and ferry services, including Community Transit.
The premium fare for MetroX ($1.00) and MetroLink ($0.50) is required to use these services.
Access-A-Bus services are excluded from this program.
Seniors who qualify for free travel should carry proper photo identification as the operator may ask for proof of age.
