Community Visioning

The 2014 Regional Plan contains policy outlining Regional Council's ongoing support and future commitment to Community Visioning:

  • Policy G-2 states the Community Vision statements approved for the Bedford Waterfront, Fall River, Musquodoboit Harbour, Middle/Upper Sackville/Lucasville, Spryfield, Penhorn/Woodlawn, Woodside and Upper Tantallon shall be considered when preparing secondary planning strategies, programs and service delivery for these communities.
  • Policy G-3 states, when preparing secondary planning strategies, HRM shall incorporate a visioning program as part of the planning process.

Community Visioning was identified in the first Regional Plan (2006) as a key process for informing secondary (community) planning and implementing the Regional Plan at the community level, including the Regional Centre and in growth centres. In addition to the Vision for the Regional Centre, community visions were approved in principle by Regional Council to guide future secondary plans, policy development, business planning, and overall service delivery in seven communities. The program was suspended in the fall of 2011 and re-examined during the Regional Plan's 5-year review (RP+5), resulting in new Policies G-2 and G-3.
