Vision Implementation
The Bedford Waterfront Vision Implementation Committee (VIC) and theme task groups meet monthly to plan for and review the implementation of community's 25 year vision.

Implementation Committee Recruited

Bedford residents were able to apply for a seat on the implementation committee and task groups until January 31st. At the deadline more than 25 applications had been received. Interviews were carried out in February. The Vision Implementation Committee (VIC) and task group members held a meet and greet on February 28th. An evening orientation and training session was held March 5th.

Vision and Action Plan Approved
The Bedford Waterfront Vision and Action Plan were endorsed in principle by Halifax Regional Council on Tuesday, October 30, 2007.
Regional Council directed these documents be considered in the HRM's business planning and budgeting process beginning with the 2008-09 cycle.
Successful implementation of the action plan will require the support and participation of the residents of Bedford and other community stakeholders. A community-based committee will guide implementation of the Action Plan.

Feedback on Draft Vision
Thank you to everyone who took time to provide feedback on the draft Vision! Many thoughtful and constructive comments were received. Over the summer the Community Liaison Group reviewed all feedback.

The original deadline for comments was extended. The extra time allowed more residents to provide their comments on the draft Vision and Action Plan for the waterfront area.
The Community Liaison Group decided to extend the deadline following detailed news coverage.
More media coverage was provided on July 12, 2007 and July 20th.

Read comments from the April 12th event.
Residents attending the April 12th event participated in a Visual Preference Survey. The survey used a series of photographs to show examples of commercial development, housing, signage, parking, etc. Participants scored each image based on what they liked or disliked.

Bedford Waterfront Visioning Process
The Bedford Waterfront area, including Mill Cove, is designated as a Suburban Local Centre in the Regional Plan. This area of the Bedford was one of three to take part in a Community Visioning pilot project in 2007.
A Community Liaison Group (CLG) was established in Bedford to champion the visioning process. The CLG was comprised of nine (9) local residents. The CLG guided the process of community engagement.
The CLG held regular committee meetings at Basinview Elementary. View the list of meetings (scroll down the "meeting" page to the CLG section).
In addition to regular meetings, the CLG hosted several community events to seek broad community participation in the visioning process for the Bedford Waterfront. Details about events were posted on the web site, advertised in community newspapers, and featured in venues around the community.
The CLG was also available to meet with groups and organizations.
