Used cooking oil and trap grease must be collected by a rendering service for recycling. Currently there are three cooking oil/grease recyclers who serve HRM:

Mini Bin Suppliers:

Please note: Cracker boxes or other boxboard packaging (acceptable for composting), ice cream containers and coleslaw or plastic laundry pails are inexpensive and re-usable countertop mini-bin alternatives.

  • Many retailers offer mini-bins for sale in their cleaning supply aisle.  These stores include (but are not limited to): WalMart, Kent, Lee Valley, Home Depot & Canadian Tire.

  • Many waste handling companies offer extra services for residents requiring clean-out of material.  Fees vary depending on the services, material type and quantity.

Tires:

  • Passenger or small truck tires (up to 4) can be brought back to any tire retail centre free of charge. For more information on tire disposal, please call 1-877-313-RRFB (7732) or visit www.PutWasteInItsPlace.com.
 

Used Motor Oil:

  • Retailers who sell motor oil must either accept used oil or provide a collection depot within 5 kilometres of their business. Deliver your used oil to your nearest oil retailer for reprocessing.
