Cheryl Copage-Gehue
Halifax Regional Municipality is pleased to work with Cheryl Copage-Gehue as the Advisor, Indigenous Community Engagement.
Cheryl most recently worked for the Assembly of First Nations Chiefs NS/NL Regional Office and worked both on regional and national initiatives. In her AFN role, she worked on the Halifax Legacy Rooms, Nimidiwin Cultural Showcase, Atlantic Chief Caucuses, Special Chiefs Assemblies and AFN policy supports. Cheryl has done significant work with both Indigenous Chiefs, Native Women and Tribal & Community organizations through her work at Atlantic Policy Congress of First Nation Chiefs and Nova Scotia Native Women’s Association.
In this role, Cheryl leads the development of a framework for Indigenous peoples living in the municipality and support the creation of internal education programs and advisory services to build employee proficiency in understanding and working with Indigenous peoples.
Cheryl is a proud Mi’kmaq woman that comes from the Sipekne’katik First Nation which is located near the town of Shubenacadie, NS.
