What is the Regional Plan?
The Regional Municipal Planning Strategy (the Plan) is a guide for the future development of the municipality. It represents a significant step forward (since 2006) in integrated land-use planning and long-term coordination. It is a framework that outlines how future sustainable growth should take place in the municipality, in a way that preserves the environment while at the same time maintaining a strong economy. The overarching goal of this Plan is to achieve a shared vision of the future of the municipality, a vision of healthy, vibrant, and sustainable communities, without taking away from the character that makes this municipality a distinct and attractive place to live.
Why does the municipality need a Regional Plan?
Growth is good for the municipality. It's exciting. It offers many possibilities and opportunities. But it needs to be anticipated, planned for and managed. That's the role of a regional plan. The plan will create a strategy to both manage growth and preserve what our citizens tell us they need and want: protected environment, efficient transportation, and a strong economy. The regional plan will propose ways to maintain the safe, vibrant, healthy way of life that draws people to the region and keeps them here. Without a regional plan, the municipality risks losing the very quality of life that residents value. Check out some of the further benefits.
Where can I find a copy of the Regional Plan indicators?
The updated indicators for each theme are found within the app themselves. You can find the original list in The Regional Plan, Appendix A on page 112.
Why/how were these indicators selected?
These indicators were selected based on the objectives of the Regional Plan. They were selected to measure the success or challenges of the policies and plans set out in the Plan. They are also based on available information and datasets and in discussion with the business units staff themselves. As more information from the departments within the municipality are collected, changes to the indicators may happen in order to reflect this.
Why are these indicators different than what is listed in the Regional Plan?
The indicators within the Story Map app may be different. These were updated based on discussion with the business units and also on availability of datasets. These will be updated of changed as new and or better information become available.
How often and when will the (KPI) be updated?
The Regional Plan Key Performance Indicators are a snap shot in time. Due to the type, source, and frequency of the data to be collected, the municipality can only support a bi-yearly update of the indicators at this time. However, some datasets will be updated on an even longer timeline, for example Statistics Canada five-year National Household Survey data due to availability and/or resources.
