An automatic machine is any mechanical or electronic device used for vending of amusement and operated automatically (by coin, counter, or slug). If you or your business own one of these machines, you must have a licence for each machine.
The following are not considered an automatic machine and you don’t need a licence to have one:
- automatic scale
- telephone apparatus
- gas or electric meters
- postage stamp vending machines
- any machine that is licensed by the Province of Nova Scotia
How long is an automated machine licence good for?
The licence year is for a period of 12 months, from April 1-March 31. It is the responsibility of the owner to renew the licence.
How do I apply for a licence?
Submit a completed copy of the automatic machine licence application form, in person, to any Municipal Customer Service Centres.
