Application by Halifax Regional Municipality to rezone 2407, 2415 and 2421 Old Sambro Road, Williamswood from the R-2 (Two Unit Dwelling) Zone to the P-2 (Community Facility) Zone under the Land Use By-law for Planning District 5 (Chebucto Peninsula) to permit a Fire Station.
The subject properties are located on the west side of the Old Sambro Road across from Hazel Drive. They are designated Residential under the Municipal Planning Strategy for Planning District 5 (MPS), and are zoned R-2 (Two Unit Dwelling) under the Land Use By-law for Planning District 5 (LUB).
HRM is proposing to rezone the property from the R-2 (Two Unit Dwelling) Zone to the P-2 (Community Facility) Zone to permit the location of a municipal fire station. Under the current R-2 Zone, fire stations are not permitted.
This application is being considered under the rezoning process subject to Policy RES-7 and IM-10 of the MPS.
Community engagement is a required part of the rezoning process. A public information meeting was held on November 29th 2017 at the Harrietsfield Elementary School. A fact sheet was distributed at the meeting. Anyone unable to attend the meeting but wishing to comment or provide feedback may contact the assigned planner (contact information below). Comments and feedback received by December 31th, 2017 will be considered as part of the review of this application. Upon completion of the staff review a report will be submitted to the Halifax and West Community Council. Should Community Council wish to consider the rezoning, a public hearing will be held. At the public hearing members of the public may address Community Council or submit written comments in advance. Anyone who received notification of the November 29th meeting will also receive notice of the public hearing. Notice of the public hearing will also appear in the municipal notices section of the Chronicle Herald and on the HRM website.
