An application has been submitted by WM Fares Architects, on behalf of LSJ Holdings Limited, requesting a development agreement to allow an increase from 14 to 16 children under care at the existing child care centre at 56 Kearney Lake Road, Halifax.
The applicant has submitted a request for a development agreement to allow an increase in the number of children in the care of the existing day care on the subject site from 14 to 16 children. The subject site is zoned R-1 (Single Family Dwelling), and is located in the Halifax Mainland Plan Area. The Halifax Mainland Land Use By-law permits child care centres for up to 8 children in the R-1 Zone.
Implementation Policy 3.20 of the Halifax Municipal Planning Strategy allows child care centres for more than 8 children to be permitted by a development agreement
Implementation Policy 3.20 also includes criteria that Council must consider, including traffic and pedestrian safety, staffing, number of children, and a site plan inclusive of buildings, fences, landscaping, signage and play structures.
This application is being considered through the Development Agreement process.
Halifax and West Community Council considered this matter at its meeting on July 9, 2019 and referred it to a public hearing to take place on Tuesday, August 6th, 2019, at 6:00 pm, in Council Chambers on the 3rd floor of City Hall, 1841 Argyle Street, Halifax, NS.
At the public hearing, members of the public may address Community Council directly or submit written comments in advance. Written submissions may be forwarded to the Municipal Clerk by mail to P.O. Box 1749, Halifax, Nova Scotia, B3J 3A5; by fax to 902-490-4208, or by e-mail. Written submissions should be received by the Municipal Clerk’s office as early as possible, and not later than 3:00 pm on Tuesday, August 6, 2019. For any written submissions exceeding three standard letter sized pages in length, ten copies must be supplied to the Municipal Clerk’s office.
