A public hearing will be held by Halifax and West Community Council on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at the Halifax City Hall (Council Chamber), 3rd Floor, 1841 Argyle Street, Halifax.
This is an HRM initiated project directing staff to prepare a recommendation report regarding lands within the Peninsula West Area 1 schedule of the Halifax Peninsula Land Use By-law to enable the internal conversion of existing residential buildings to a maximum of six units.
The Peninsula West Area 1 schedule was created in 2003 when Community Council rezoned the lands to the R-1 (Single Family) Zone and created specific regulations regarding lot coverage, height, and lot alteration for properties within the schedule. There are a very small number of properties in the Halifax Peninsula West Area 1 that are currently constructed to house 5 or 6 residential unite but are not allowed under the current zoning. Community Council has requested staff to prepare a recommendation report to enable the internal conversion of existing residential buildings within the Peninsula West Area 1 schedule to a maximum of six units.
The application will be considered under the Land Use Bylaw Amendment process
Staff are undertaking a detailed review of the application.
The application has been circulated to all relevant members of municipal staff for preliminary review and comments have been received.
Municipal Planning Staff held a public information meeting on November 21, 2018 to discuss the application. The fact sheet, PowerPoint Presentation and summary of the meeting are available for viewing.
The application was considered by the Halifax Peninsula Planning Advisory Committee at a meetings held on Monday, January 28, 2019 and February 25, 2019.
