Application by Stephen Adams Consulting Ltd. to rezone 1601 Ketch Harbour Road, Sambro from P-2 (Community Facility) Zone to R-6 (Rural Residential) Zone to allow the storage of fish nets, fishing gear and equipment related to local fishery.
The proposed rezoning would allow the property to be used for any use permitted in the R-6 Zone. The proponent is applying for the rezoning in order to allow a fishery support use. A fishery support use in the R-6 Zone would permit:
• Using the existing building or constructing a new building for the storage and maintenance of fishing gear;
• Outdoor storage of boats on the property; and
• Retail or wholesale of fish products
The applicant has provided a letter detailing the proposed business operations for the property (attached, below) as well as a location certificate showing the existing building on the property.
The application will be considered under the land use by-law amendment process.
The application has been submitted and is undergoing initial review by municipal staff and may change as a result of staff comments. A sign is posted by the applicant on the subject site advertising the Planning Application. Staff will undertake a detailed review of the application and undertake public consultation. Prior to any considerations on this matter, Halifax and West Community Council is required under the Halifax Regional Municipality Charter to hold a Public Hearing. At that time, an additional opportunity for public feedback is provided. Notices of the date, time and location of the Hearing will be advertised in the future.
