NOTICE OF APPROVAL
HARBOUR EAST-MARINE DRIVE COMMUNITY COUNCIL

On April 4th, 2024, Harbour East-Marine Drive Community Council approved the application to enter into a development agreement at 8990 Highway 7, Head of Jeddore (PID 00609149) to allow a commercial building (grocery store) that exceeds 5000 square feet in floor area.

Any aggrieved person, the Provincial Director of Planning, or the Council of any adjoining municipality may, within fourteen days of the publishing of this notice on the HRM website, appeal to the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board (902.424.4448), in accordance with the provisions of the Halifax Regional Municipality Charter.

Request

WSP, on behalf of Metlink Investments Limited, is applying to enter into a development agreement to build a new commercial building (grocery store) on lands located at 8990 Highway 7, Head of Jeddore (PID 00609149).

The applicant wishes to build a stand-alone grocery store on PID 00609149, which is a property that currently has a strip mall with a grocery store. The applicant intends to retain the strip mall and move the grocery store to a new building, to increase its capacity. The underlying MU (Mixed Use) zoning requires that any commercial use exceeding 5000 square feet only be permitted by development agreement.

The development plans (provided below) outline the development proposal in detail, and include information related to the building plans, traffic impact, site details, landscaping plan, servicing, and project rationale.

The application will be considered under the Development Agreement Process.

TAKE NOTICE THAT Harbour East-Marine Drive Community Council did, on Thursday, April 4th, 2024, approve the following: 

PLANAPP-2023-00728 - Application by WSP, on behalf of the property owner, to enter into a development agreement to allow a commercial building (grocery store) that exceeds 5000 square feet in floor area.

Documents Submitted for Evaluation

The applicant has submitted plans required by HRM staff to properly evaluate the application. The documents are also available for review at the Planning Applications office at 5251 Duke Street, Halifax.
